A note from Nic Chung · Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Choosing your wedding photographer in Kuala Lumpur.
What to look for beyond a favourite portrait, and what to ask before you book wedding-day or pre-wedding photography in Malaysia.
Written by Nic Chung, wedding photographer

Start with the photographs you want to keep.
A dramatic portrait can tell you about a photographer’s eye for light. A complete wedding story tells you more: how they photograph family, what they notice during a ceremony and how the celebration looks after dark. Before choosing a wedding photographer in Kuala Lumpur or elsewhere in Malaysia, look at both.
My work brings fine art portraits together with spontaneous moments. Look for the hands, expressions and reactions in the galleries, as well as the photographs of the couple.

Actual-day wedding photography and a pre-wedding session serve different purposes. On the wedding day, events unfold around the people you have gathered. A pre-wedding session offers a separate space for portraits, a familiar setting or travel together.
Write down the parts of your celebration that matter to you: getting ready, a tea ceremony or other family traditions, your vows, portraits and the reception. Share the events that apply to your plans rather than assuming every collection covers the same things.
Make room for people and portraits.
When your day involves several locations, show your photographer the sequence of events and travel between them. Discuss where portraits can fit without taking you away from the celebration for longer than you want.
If an outdoor session is part of your plans, ask how the light, weather and an indoor alternative will affect it. For family photographs, prepare a short list of the groups you most want and choose someone who knows the guests to help gather them.
Compare the work and the written details.
Alongside the photographs, ask each photographer to explain the proposed coverage, who will photograph the day, what will be delivered, the expected delivery schedule and the booking terms. If you need albums, additional coverage or travel, ask how those fit your quotation.
Prices on their own cannot show you how a photographer sees a day. Read client feedback and compare full galleries before deciding what feels right for you.
Read couples’ own words ↗Why I watch the moments between.
I’m Nic Chung, a fine art wedding photographer based in Kuala Lumpur, available across Malaysia and worldwide. For more than a decade, I’ve photographed wedding days with attention to the moments that pass quickly: a parent watching, a hand reaching out, friends laughing together.
I care about light and composition, and about the feeling that stays with a photograph. My aim is for you to return to these pictures in ten or twenty years and recognise how it felt to be there.
